Persistent Weak Layers (PWLs) are responsible for a large percentage of the avalanche deaths in Canada each year. They are hard to predict and have the potential to be quite destructive. This years free avalanche workshop will start with around 1 hour of classroom lecture, followed by a half day in the field. I will be teaching students how to gain as much information from the snowpack as possible, focusing on PWLs and uncertainty. The field component will take place at Strawberry Pass or Kootenay Pass if we need more snow to work with. Max class size is 8 students. Participants will need to sign a waiver to participate. To register please e-mail me at mikepackham7777@gmail.com. 8am to 3pm
