Ballet Kelowna presents Mambo & Other Works - Performing Arts Trail series

November 21 7:30 to 9:30 pm TDAC presents The Performing Arts Trail Series Nine Ballet Kelowna dancers perform a mixed program.1723 - Vivaldi (2017) Choreography: Wen Wei Wang Music: Antonio Vivaldi, The Four Seasons Recomposed by: Max Richter Length: 19 minutes 1723 - Vivaldi is a mesmerizing sextet created by “one of the country’s most in-demand choreographers” (The Globe and Mail), Chinese-Canadian dance luminary Wen Wei Wang. Featuring extreme technical prowess from its sextet of dancers, with complex pointe work and powerful extensions, 1723 - Vivaldi is an evocative display of winter’s stark surroundings - bare, mesmerizing, and haunting. “Every part of their bodies had a role to play, sometimes in unexpected ways.” ~ The Daily Courier Cuatro Estaciones(2019) Choreography: Simone Orlando Music: Astor Piazzolla, Four Seasons of Buenos Aires and Antonio Vivaldi, The Four Seasons Length: 34 minutes Cuatro Estaciones, is an evocative tango-inspired ensemble piece by Ballet Kelowna’s visionary Artistic Director Simone Orlando, set to virtuoso composer Astor Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. Orlando’s choreography infuses ballet’s contemporary lines with the intricate, expressive elements of Argentine Tango and features the full company performing fiery steps in stunning group formations and seductive duets. “Passionate, fiery, exquisite, breathtaking.” ~ The Daily Courier MAMBO (2018) Choreography: Alysa Pires Music: Perry Como, Rosemary Clooney, Julie London, Xavier Cugat, Sarah Vaughan, Dean Martin, and Louis Prima Length: 20 minutes MAMBO gained worldwide acclaim after performances at Beijing’s China International Performing Arts Expo and Toronto’s Fall For Dance North Festival in 2018. Pires’ “crowd-pleasing MAMBO” (The Globe and Mail), is a colourful joie de vivre set to a vibrant soundtrack of Latin, swing, and jazz standards by musical legends such as Dean Martin, Perry Como, Rosemary Clooney, Sarah Vaughn, and more. “MAMBO was da bomb and a slightly kitschy gift that kept on giving to an audience that was eating it up.” ~ Regular Guy Reviewer
