Acknowledgements

Prior to undertaking my current campaign for Council, I would like to express genuine thanks for the enormous amount of community support over the preceding 2 years in the form of votes cast, signatures collected, and expressions of encouragement received.

In fulfilling a request from local ratepayers for representation during the 2018 election, no one anticipated such initial campaign efforts would evolve into a political movement so it is wonderful to find myself working alongside other dedicated community members in reestablishing the Rossland Ratepayers Association (circa 1903). A committed group of locals, RRA members have a shared goal of ensuring fiscally accountable local government, and the ratepayers right to oversight on significant public expenditures.

Between public disappointment with Council over the Emcon Mixed Use Devleopment (EMUD) public hearing last February and the cancellation of the first by-election back in April, I met, and have gained the support of prior candidate Dan Haines. While we come from different places and life experiences we share a love of Rossland, and value the contributions of those who make this an amazing place to live, work, and play.

Thanks as well to fellow candidate Terry Miller for putting his name forward. Having run as the youngest candidate in the 2018 election, and with an out of town address to boot, I know how challenging a first attempt at council can be. Having received 365 votes at the time, it is encouraging to see Milty’s network of support. Winning by acclimation provides no mandate, and this election comes at a crucial point for Rossland as it undertakes a review of its Official Community Plan.

With issues from the 2018 election such as the Trail Residents Program, Affordable Housing, and the ever increasing cost of delivering Emergency Services still unaddressed, this election affords the opportunity to genuinely undertake better integration with our regional partners. With over 350 electors denied the right to a say on EMUD, this is also an election about ensuring the electorate has an available and engaged voice willing to speak on their behalf at the council table.

I sincerely thank all of you for the trust you have placed in me to date, and your continued confidence in me as a candidate who is capable and willing to accomplish these objectives.
