North of Nightfall and Alone Across the Arctic Double Bill at the Silver Screen Drive-in

We’ve got an Arctic adventure documentary double bill this week! Experience the arctic from new perspectives on foot, by canoe, or on a mountain bike on the 40-foot screen at the Silver Screen Drive-in on Thursday, September 9 at 8:00 pm!

Explorer Adam Shoalts is “Alone Across the Arctic” when he embarks on a record-breaking estimated 4000 km journey across the Canadian Arctic by canoe and on foot, alone. 

Hailed as one of the greatest living explorers, and “Canada’s Indiana Jones,” Adam Shoalts embarks on an epic and death-defying four-month solo journey across the uncharted Canadian Arctic wilderness. From the Yukon to Nunavut, Shoalts relies on his well-honed survival skills in a race against the elements, navigating the treacherous and uncharted waterways before the deadly grip of winter renders the terrain impassable.

In 2016 Shoalts was named a national champion of the Trans-Canada Trail and in 2018 Explorer-in-Residence of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. 

The documentary "Alone Across the Arctic" is the accompanying piece to the best-selling book "Beyond the Trees: A Journey Alone Across Canada's Arctic" by Adam Shoalts. Where the book represents the mental and spiritual journey in comparison the documentary details the physical journey.

Join Darren Berrecloth, Carson Storch, Cam Zink and Tom Van Steenbergen in “North of Nightfall” as they embark on an expedition to the top of the world to explore this relatively unknown land. 12 hours from the nearest hospital, they discover a rapidly changing environment steeped in history along with ground-breaking descents unlike anything anyone’s ridden to date.

The Trail & District Arts Council and The Royal Theatre have joined forces to imagine your new, favourite summer experience, the Silver Screen Drive-in. Running from June to September, films will screen Thursday through Saturday at sunset in the Waneta Plaza upper parking lot. Upcoming films will include those event movies that you’ve missed seeing on a big screen, retro classics from comedy to horror, as well as those Sunday Cinema favourites been as well as Oscar winning independent films and documentaries. Plus, live performances of music, theatre, dance and more!
