Kootenay Savings Music In The Park: Trail Pipe Band with Scottie School of Highland Dance & Boomer
Submitted by Trail Arts Council on Wed, 25/05/2022 - 4:01pm
June 16 6:15 to 8:00 pm The Trail & District Arts Council is very excited to get the community together again at Kootenay Savings Music in The Park!
Tonight, rock meets the Scottish piping of the Trail Pipe Band for an evening of dancing as we kick things off with the local band BOOMER at 6.15 pm. This rockin’ trio is made up of Jim Fike on drums and vocals, Collin Foli on bass and vocals and Harvey Miner on guitar and vocals. The Trail Pipe Band will then be playing pipe band favourites from their huge repertoire from 7-8pm.
Trail Pipe Band is 100 years old and has an active roster of 10 pipers and 8 drummers in performance. The tartan kilts they wear today are modeled after the uniform of the Scots Guards: Royal Stuart tartan kilts and plaids; with green tunics for the pipers and red tunics for the drummers. Their goal is to promote the Scottish tradition by teaching the arts of piping and drumming. For more info go to their website http://www.trailpipeband.ca.
Joining the Pipe Band will be Scottie School of Highland Dance. Scottie School of Highland Dance has been running in Castlegar since 1994 under teacher Jaydeen Ashton. The dancers participate in community events, festivals and celebrations, along with competing in dance competitions and dance exams throughout the year. Dancers range in age from 3 to adult……. remember, you are never too old to learn to dance!
Music in the Park is held at Trail's Gyro Park every Thursday starting at 6.15 pm, except for the Night Market shows on July 7 and August 4 when the event will run from 5 pm. Come down and feel the buzz again at this fabulous outdoor summer event.
