Monday Cinema:Scarborough

December 5 4:00 to 6:15 pm

Over the course of one school year three kids growing up in a low-income neighbourhood find friendship and community in an unlikely place as they experience institutional violence and inequality. An unflinching but hopeful drama that shows the capacity for great triumph and great tragedy on the periphery of unassuming suburbs in this adaptation of the breathtaking novel by Catherine Hernandez.

The film explores the rich interior lives of the three children, with revelatory performances from its young cast, thrusting audiences into the chaos of the children’s ever-changing world on the periphery of unassuming suburbs.

Runner-up for the TIFF People’s Choice Award in 2021, and eight wins at the 2022 Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
