Monday Cinema: Living

February 13 4:00 to 5:45 pm

In 1950s London, a humorless civil servant decides to take time off work to experience life after receiving a grim diagnosis.

“LIVING” is the story of an ordinary man, reduced by years of oppressive office routine to a shadow existence, who at the eleventh hour makes a supreme effort to turn his dull life into something wonderful. After trying hedonism at a seaside resort as a solution he returns to the city to create a legacy for the next generation.

An English-language adaptation by Kazuo Ishiguro (“Remains of the Day” and “Never Let Me Go”) of the script of Akira Kurosawa’s "Ikiru" (1952), now set in a London shattered by WWII in the 1950s.

“Really quite something: a rare remake that only augments and enriches the original. For Bill Nighy, meanwhile, it feels in every sense like the role of a lifetime.” - Empire Magazine

“An absolutely gorgeous, heartbreaking piece of work.” Rolling Stone

“A gentle, exquisitely sad film.” - Guardian
