Printer's Devils: May Speaker Series with Ron Verzuh at the Museum

May 25 6:00 to 7:30 pm

Join historian Ron Verzuh at the Museum at 6 pm on Thursday, May 25th to hear all about his latest publication: Printer’s Devils: The Feisty Pioneer Newspaper That Shaped the History of British Columbia’s Smelter City, 1895-1925.

Journey back in time to the bygone era of “printer’s devils” - as the apprentices in a printing establishment were often called - and uncover how their influence shaped the establishment of BC’s Smelter City. This captivating book traces the stories of Trail residents and their evolving attitudes, pastimes, and opinions as they respond in times of economic crisis, war, labour strife, and life-threatening disease.

The talk at the Museum will highlight sections of Ron's book that are particularly relevant to us!
- Billy Esling (long-standing MLA and MP for the area, who started out as a “printer’s devil” at the Trail News)
- Founding of the Le Roi Mine
- Eber C. Smith (local editor-owner who got himself in hot water at one time!)
- F. Augustus Heinze (once owner of the Rossland Miner)

Entry is by donation. Coffee, tea, and treats will be available. RSVP: https://rossland-museum.square.site/product/may-speaker-series-with-ron-... to be entered into a draw for tickets to Rocky Mountain High at the Bailey Theatre!
