National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Trail

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of this tragic and painful history and the ongoing impacts is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

Please join us at the Trail Riverfront Centre at 11:00 AM for a Land Acknowledgement & Opening Prayer.

Then, from 11:15 AM to 2 PM, there will be Interactive Learning, Educational Resources and Short Films.

Trail Arts Council will be playing a series of films in partnership with VISAC Art Gallery at the Royal Theatre Trail from 11 am to 1 pm.

Films include "What is Reconciliation", "The Amendment", "Holy Angels", "Story About Orange Shirt Day", "United by Water", "Etlinisigu'niet (Bleed Down)", How to Steal a Canoe", "As I Am" and "Honour to Senator Murray Sinclair."

The films cover topics including: the ongoing impacts of residential schools; new ways to keep Indigenous languages alive; tainted water and land; challenging stereotypes of Indigenous people in the workplace; a music video about a couple returning a stolen canoe to the water; and the 5 tribes of the Upper Columbia River uniting in traditional canoes for the first time since the Grand Coulee Dam flooded their traditional waterways.
