PreNatal Classes

Sundays July 8 to 22 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Join Hanne Smith, experienced childbirth educator and birth doula. Gain knowledge, confidence and comfort about pregnancy, birth and breast feeding. 

The course covers:
Pregnancy
• comfort during late pregnancy 
• an overview of labour - anatomy, hormones, when birth starts, signs and stages, etc.

Birth
• the wide range of 'normal' in birth,
• hands-on practical session on 'how to stay comfortable during labor & birth'.
• non-medical and medical support / interventions that are useful if complications arise 
• informed choice, shared decision-making, what to pack for the hospital.

New Families
• breastfeeding, mom & baby care in the first 6-8 weeks, car seat safety, baby handling.
• explore baby behavior: how parents can understand what they are seeing, & how to calm babies
• baby sleep patterns, how those relate to developmental stages, and when (& how) parents can help their babies to develop sleep patterns that are appropriate for their developmental stage
• 'baby blues' and post partum depression, adjustments to parenting, and sex. 

Bring comfy clothes, any food and water you need, and anything else to remain comfortable throughout the course. Bring pillows or exercise ball if you want. One hour lunch break on Saturday and Sunday.
