Trail & District Public Library presents: "Why is a Raven like a Writing Desk?"

Join us as Fernando Soto leads us to his explanation of Lewis Carroll’s riddle from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland :

"…why is a raven like a writing desk?"

Fernando is a Chilean-Canadian scholar who has written a Masters thesis on Carroll’s use of etymology in his “Nonsense” (at U. of Sask.), and a Ph.D. thesis on Carroll’s and MacDonald’s literary and linguistic sources (at U. of Glasgow). He has published and spoken widely on both Carroll and MacDonald and has served as an expert reader, then as editor and co-editor of North Wind: a Journal of MacDonald Studies. He has edited a chap books on Carroll for LCS of Canada.  The following are among his peer-reviewed publications: ‘The Consumption of the Snark and the Decline of Nonsense,’ ‘Chthonic Aspects of MacDonald’s Phantastes,’ ‘Some Linguistic Moves in the Carroll-MacDonald Literary Game,’ ‘The Two World Conciousness of North Wind,’ and ‘The Mouse’s Long and Sad Tale’.
