Does anyone know if you are allowed to raise chickens in town?

Am assuming that provided you have a safe secure place for them and don't attact bears then it should be fine, but I'm getting some contradictory information and if anyone knows for sure - or knows where to access the informatio, I'd really appreciate it. thanks
