Icelandic master puppeteer brings two amazing shows to The Bailey this Saturday

Worlds of Puppets bring their brilliant puppeteering talents all the way from Iceland to The Bailey Theatre on Saturday, March 9 for two amazing, beautiful shows. Both shows are the creation of Bernd Ogrodnik, who long served as Master Puppeteer for the country’s National Theater and is founder and Artistic Director of the Icelandic Center for Puppetry Arts.

The day starts at 2 pm with our second show in the Teck Family Series, Worlds of Puppets “Peter and the Wolf”. The Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev created the story and the music in 1936 to help young people get to know the instruments in a symphony orchestra.

The production stays true to the original story and the music leads the show, with each character represented by a beautifully handcrafted puppet. After the show, children will be invited onto the stage to meet the puppets up close.

Then at 7:30 pm, as part of Trail & District Arts Council’s E2: Experiments in Entertainment, series “Metamorphosis” depicts the changing nature of our existence in a collection of moving, hilarious and imaginative original short stories ranging from the trivial to the metaphysical.

The imagery is emphasized through the surrealistic quality of seeing these stories told by a cast of intricate marionettes and rod puppets carved of wood, as well as unforgettable characters created simply with silk scarves and the hands and feet of the puppeteer. The evening show tackles adult themes and is only suitable for people ages 19 and over.

Bernd Ogrodnik is world renowned for his puppetry skills in theatre, movies and television.

"...one of puppetry's most impressive talents.” - The Philadelphia Inquirer

"Bernd Ogrodnik has become widely recognized as a superb artist ...” Leslie Ash, Executive Producer of the Jim Henson Foundation.
