Seeking Canine Skijouring Partner

New to Rossland and skilled at Skijouring with big dogs. If you have a high energy snow dog that needs to burn off some steam this could be for you. Accepting submissions for a canine partner to begin the bonding process so we can build trust before the snow flies. Timeslots are limited and dependent on schedule and snow levels, though likely to be weekends. I will be away from Christmas to February sadly. I have 3 harnesses in different sizes and if your pooch is chosen and doesn't fit any of them, you would have to order one special to ensure comfort and reduce risk of injury. A tandem team of two dogs will be considered if appropriate.

What is Skijouring?

It's a tandem sport with a human and a dog or two dogs on a tandem line. The human has intermwdiate cross-country skis and it attached by the waist to their canine partner who has an instinct to lead and pull in the front. They must not have issues with their paws having contact to put booties on as they are essential to keeping their paws ice free during the session. The team traverses up and down moderate terrain. On the down hill a quick release allows the skier to release from the canine and pass them safely. Your dog would be returned tired and hungry resulting in a calm evening or two for you. Behaviour issues can be addressed through reducing their exercise frustration and listening skills improved. In return, I get a partner to offer protection in the bush when I am skiing on my own breaking trail. Despite popular belief, the dog does not in fact do all the work. Our speed simply increases a bit until we find a rhythm together.
